Spy Shots: Next-generation Mercedes-Benz CLS

The 2010 Mercedes-Benz CLS is undergoing testing, and as is true with so many segment-defining vehicles, there doesn't look to be much of a change going on up top. However, down below, in the area covered by cladding, we will probably see some noticeable tweaks and refinements as the original "four-door coupe" moves from the current E-Class to the new E-Class platform (it will not be built on the S-Class platform). As for engines, in addition to gas and (in Europe) diesel options, it will be offered with the BlueHybrid drivetrain from the S400.

In the mean time, for 2009, the CLS gets revised front and rear, a new grille, larger outside mirrors, and LEDs in the tail-lamp clusters. Inside, a new steering wheel complements the reworked interior and a next-generation COMAND system.

Numerous Spy Photos Of The New Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe Emerge

Spy photos of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe

Now that the official photos of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class have been leaked, it's only fitting that photos showcasing the new E-Class Coupe nearly undisguised have began appearing as well. As you'll see (and as we all expected), the similarities between the E-Class Coupe and sedan are abundant, with a notable difference up front being the sportier grille with corresponding Mercedes star. As of now it's being said that the grille won't be available on the E-Class sedan – instead only on the coupe variant but personally, I wouldn't mind seeing it made available for the next-generation E63 AMG.

We're not in Hustler territory yet, but we're easily in Maxim land, as the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class has revealed itself in all but the tiniest of body cladding. Why we need to wait until next year for the model's official unveiling is a mystery, as renderings, spy photos and the Concept FASCINATION study have revealed both its outward and inner appearance in remarkably clear detail, but alas, we do, and as such, you still have a fair amount of time to wait until the E-Class makes its debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.

In addition to the IIHS award, the Mercedes C-Class was also awarded five stars in the Euro NCAP (the European New Car Assessment Programme), making it one of the safest cars on the market.
